Meet Katie Beyer
There is nothing Katie loves better than hanging out with kids and teens, which is evident in the nearly 20 years she has spent working in the Shelbyville Central, Greensburg Community, and Clark-Pleasant Community school systems. One of the best parts of her job is watching her clients experience that "ah-ha" moment. Whether it's helping a child develop confidence in themselves or assisting a young adult determine their path, Katie helps the youngest members of our world begin to feel better, look better, and heal.
Qualifications
Katie received her undergraduate degree from Franklin College in 2008 in Leadership. She completed her Master's in School Counseling from IUPUI in 2011 and immediately began her school counselor career. Katie recently finished her LMHC certification through Butler University, so that she could take the skills she was already using out of the school and into the play therapy room, for clients who need more help and support.

What Katie says about her clinical expertise and her ideal clients…
My love for working with adolescents started fresh out of undergraduate school when I started my career at an alternative school. My professional career has been centered in a school setting, where I have worked predominantly with adolescents. Every job I have had since then has led me to work with at-risk youth, especially helping individuals with trauma. I aim to provide a place where clients can be seen, valued, and heard. Most of the time we process these feelings and past experiences through play, exploring nature, and through creativity. I am a big encourager of play for ALL ages, so you will see a lot of that in my practice.
I am the youngest of four children and come from a family of educators. My husband and I have three young boys and our youngest is neurodivergent. I can empathize and relate to those who have someone in their family who is neurodivergent and the many different dynamics that come with it. I also have a heart for families of first responders as my husband is a firefighter. I know personally the toll it can take on families, especially children in the family.
I enjoy working with clients from all walks of life. My ideal client is someone who is willing to grow, be vulnerable, and embrace the healing process. Sometimes that comes with growing pains, but I will walk with you every step of the way as your biggest cheerleader. From uncomfortableness comes growth. Individuals I have worked with would describe me as dynamic, funny, nurturing, and also straight-forward. Everyone deserves to have someone in their corner.
